George Wicks was born in 1881 in Ickburgh (Swaffham Q4-1881 4B:359),baptised in Ickburgh on 6tgh November 1881, son of George and Ellen WICKS (née STURGEON).

1891 census...Aged 9 he was at Folly Cottage, Ickburgh with his father George WICKS [43] a groom; his mother Ellen [36] born Stanton; sisters Mary [13] , Edith [7] and Eliza [6]; brothers Arthur [11] and David [4]. All except his mother were born in Ickburgh.

1901 census...Aged 19, farm yardman, he was at 1 Folly House, Icjburgh with his parents (father now carter at saw mill); brothers Arthur (farm labourer) and David; sister Eliza and Sarah [7] born Ickburgh.

He married Beatrice May GOSTLING (Thetford Q2-1908 4B:767). Their address later was 9 Town Street, Brandon.

1911 census...Aged 28, married, yardman on farm, he was in Ickburgh with his wife Beatrice [27] and son Fred [2] and daughter Christina [1]. All born in Ickburgh.

He enlisted in Brandon. "Soldiers Died" has him dying of wounds, "Register of Soldiers Personal Eeffect" has "In Action".
The 1st/5th Norfolks suffered over 400 wounded in the abortive attack on Gaza on the 19th April, so it is more than likely that George was one of those and died on 22nd of his wounds (only 2 others of the battalion died that day, reinforcing the idea that they died of their wounds.
